Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 4 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 stick butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Sift dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, soda, cream of tartar) together twice.
  2. Using two knives, cut shortening into the flour mixture until well mixed.
  3. Add buttermilk; stir well to form a soft dough.
  4. Drop level tablespoonfuls of dough onto a greased cookie sheet.
  5. Place a pat of butter on each biscuit.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes at 425°F.
