Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using cream cheese instead of sour cream. If you prefer a nut-free version, substitute finely chopped oats or seeds for the walnuts. Ensure the butter is at room temperature for easier mixing, and make sure to knead the dough well for a flaky texture. Pay attention to the dough's softness; it should not be too sticky.

Serving Suggestions

Kifles can be served as a delightful dessert or a sweet snack with coffee or tea. They pair beautifully with Spinach Pate for a savory contrast during gatherings. You can also dust them with additional powdered sugar before serving for an elegant touch. Consider serving them alongside Mediterranean recipes for a diverse platter.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover Kifles in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, you can refrigerate them for up to a week. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes or until warmed through to maintain their flaky texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I freeze Kifles?

Yes, you can freeze Kifles for up to 3 months. After baking, let them cool completely, then place them in a single layer in an airtight container. To enjoy, simply thaw at room temperature or reheat in the oven until warmed through.

What is the best way to roll the dough?

To roll the dough evenly, start from the center and work your way outwards, applying gentle, even pressure. A light dusting of flour on the surface can help prevent sticking. Aim for a uniform 10-inch circle to ensure even cooking.

Can I use different fillings?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with different fillings such as chocolate, fruit preserves, or even savory options like cheese. Just be mindful of moisture content to avoid soggy pastries. Adjust sweetness accordingly if using fruit preserves.
