Kuftehs are flavorful meatballs simmered in a rich tomato sauce, combining spices and mashed potatoes for a tender, hearty dish perfect for family meals or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 lb. ground chuck
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 onion
  • 2 large potatoes
  • 1 (28 oz.) can whole tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Mix ground chuck, beaten eggs, flour, grated onion, mashed potatoes, salt, pepper, turmeric, and garlic powder until well blended.
  2. Form the mixture into 2-inch meatballs, adding more flour if necessary to help them hold together.
  3. Brown the meatballs in olive oil over medium heat in a nonstick skillet.
  4. Carefully transfer the browned meatballs to a medium saucepan and add the can of whole tomatoes.
  5. Cover the saucepan and simmer on low for 10 minutes.
  6. Serve the kuftehs with pita bread toast.
