Ingredients

  • 24 ladyfinger halves
  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • yellow food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan with foil extending 1 inch beyond the sides.
  2. Line the bottom and sides of the loaf pan with 18 ladyfingers.
  3. In a large bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice, and optional food coloring; mix well.
  4. In a small mixer bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff but not dry.
  5. Fold the beaten egg whites into the lemon mixture.
  6. Fold in the whipped cream.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf pan.
  8. Cover the filling with the remaining 6 ladyfingers.
  9. Cover and chill for 4 hours.
  10. Invert onto a serving platter and peel off the foil.
  11. Serve chilled.
