Ingredients

  • 1 lb. light brown sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 5 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 lb. chopped dates
  • 5 cups chopped pecans or 4 cups pecans and 1 cup walnuts
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Alternately add self-rising flour and eggs to the mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
  4. Stir in chopped dates, chopped nuts, and vanilla extract.
  5. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  6. Pour batter into a prepared baking pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
