Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean sausage
  • 6 slices bread
  • 1 1/2 c. Butter Buds
  • 2 1/2 c. 1% or skim milk
  • 12 egg whites or Egg Beaters
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 lb. fat-free Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, fry the lean sausage, then drain and run hot water over it; let cool.
  2. Butter one side of each bread slice using Butter Buds, then cut into small pieces.
  3. Grate the fat-free Cheddar cheese.
  4. Layer bread pieces and cheese alternately in a greased baking dish.
  5. Beat egg whites or Egg Beaters with salt and skim milk until well combined.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the layered bread and cheese in the dish.
  7. Cover and refrigerate overnight to let flavors meld.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 40 minutes until set and golden.
