- Beat butter and 1/2 cup shortening at medium speed with an electric mixer about 2 minutes or until creamy.

- Add eggs one at a time, beating just until yellow disappears after each addition.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix at low speed just until blended after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Melt the unsweetened chocolate and 1 tablespoon shortening to prepare the chocolate swirl.
- Drop spoonfuls of the chocolate mixture into the batter and swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake at the specified temperature until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
