Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 pkg. taco seasoning
  • 2 c. shredded Cheddar and Colby cheese, mixed with chili powder
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 can mushroom soup
  • 2 c. sour cream
  • 1 bag tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef and chopped onions in a skillet until browned; drain excess fat.
  2. Add salt, garlic powder, taco seasoning, and water to the cooked meat and onions.
  3. Bring to a boil and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in the mushroom soup and sour cream.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer again.
  5. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  6. Layer tortilla chips evenly at the bottom of the dish.
  7. Spread half of the meat and cheese mixture over the chips, then sprinkle with 1 cup of cheese.
  8. Repeat with another layer of chips, the remaining meat mixture, and cheese.
  9. Bake uncovered at 400°F for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F and bake for an additional 20 to 30 minutes until bubbling and cheese is melted.
