Masterful Meatloaf

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup dry bread cubes (about 2 thick slices of white bread)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground lean pork (unseasoned)
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1/3 cup grated onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sage
  • Prepared Topping
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl soak bread crumbs in milk.
  3. Add beef, pork, eggs, onion, salt, pepper and sage.
  4. Mix well with your hands and pat into a 9x13 loaf pan.
  5. In a separate bowl mix together brown sugar, ketchup, dry mustard, and nutmeg. Pour over meat loaf.
  6. Bake 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until lightly browned and a butter knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  7. If you have a meat thermometer, the internal temperature should be 180 degrees.
  8. Serve with baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, baked beans or green beans.
