Ingredients

  • 1 lb. sausage
  • 1/3 cup chopped onions
  • 1/3 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • salt (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 (8 oz.) package spaghetti
  • 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Grease a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  3. Brown and drain the sausage.
  4. Add chopped onions, celery, and green pepper to the sausage and cook until vegetables are tender.
  5. Add tomato paste, tomato sauce, oregano, salt, sugar, and 1 cup water to the sausage and vegetables.
  6. Simmer the mixture covered for 30 minutes.
  7. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions, then drain.
  8. Combine cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce and transfer to the prepared casserole dish.
  9. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes until bubbly and cheese is slightly browned.
