Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 6 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Cream together the shortening, butter, and sugars until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time and blend well after each addition.
  3. Mix in the molasses and vinegar until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine all the spices with the flour.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing well.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to desired thickness.
  7. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters or divide into portions for spooning.
  8. Place on ungreased baking sheets and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
