- Cut the centers out of the bread slices and set the centers aside.
- Place the remaining bread pieces in a greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
- Layer the cooked sausage, shredded cheeses, and sliced zucchini (if using) over the bread.
- In a bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk, tomato sauce, salsa, and salt, mixing well.
- Pour the egg mixture over the layered bread, sausage, and cheeses.
- Place the cut-out bread centers on top of the casserole.
- Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate overnight.
- Bake uncovered at 325°F (163°C) for 55 minutes.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
