Ingredients

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine molasses, shortening, sugar, eggs, ginger, cinnamon, and baking soda.
  3. Gradually add boiling water while stirring.
  4. Mix in self-rising flour and regular flour until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
  6. Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
