Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup lard
  • 4 cups flour
  • nuts or raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix lard and brown sugar together.
  2. Add eggs to the sour milk mixture.
  3. Add baking soda to the sour milk and stir.
  4. Combine the wet mixture with the sugar and lard mixture.
  5. Gradually add flour until the dough is manageable.
  6. Pat out the dough and cut into shapes with a cookie cutter.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes.
  8. Cookies are best when left somewhat thick.
