Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter ⓘ
- 1/2 cup shortening ⓘ
- 2 cups brown sugar ⓘ
- 5 eggs ⓘ
- 1/2 cup grape juice ⓘ
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice ⓘ
- 2 teaspoons vanilla ⓘ
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon cloves ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon salt ⓘ
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup candied cherries ⓘ
- 1/2 cup candied orange peel ⓘ
- 1/3 cup citron
- 4 cups flour ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon baking soda ⓘ
Instructions
- Cream shortening and eggs; add grape juice.
- Beat for 3 minutes, then add the rest of the ingredients.
- Divide the batter into 3 greased pans.
- Bake for 1 1/2 hours at 300°F (150°C).
- Remove from pans and pour Mogan David grape wine over the breads.
- Cool and wrap in wax paper, then foil. Store in a tightly sealed can.
- If the bread gets dry, coat with more wine before serving.
