Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa
  • 1 1/4 cups sifted flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Mix chopped dates and soda with hot water and set aside to cool.
  2. Cream oleo and sugar; add eggs and sifted dry ingredients.
  3. Mix well, then stir in vanilla and the cooled date mixture.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9 x 9 x 2 1/2-inch pan or a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped nuts over the top.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes at 350°F.
  7. Allow to cool before serving. Can be topped with Cool Whip for extra flair.
