Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 beaten eggs
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well.
  2. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk and vanilla to the creamed mixture.
  3. Pour batter into two greased and floured square layer cake pans.
  4. Bake in a 350°F oven for 25 minutes.
