Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup cereal flakes (Wheaties)

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and brown sugar until well blended.
  2. Add egg, water, and vanilla; mix thoroughly.
  3. Resift flour with salt and soda, then gradually add to creamed mixture.
  4. Stir in rolled oats and cereal flakes until evenly combined.
  5. Drop by teaspoons onto greased cookie sheets.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
