Oatsies are crunchy, chocolate-topped oat bars with nuts, perfect for a quick snack or dessert. They offer a delightful combination of sweet, nutty, and chocolate flavors.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Grease a 9 x 9-inch (23 x 23 cm) baking pan.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix oats and brown sugar.
  4. In a separate bowl, stir together melted butter, dark corn syrup, salt, and vanilla.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the oats mixture and mix thoroughly.
  6. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the top bubbles.
  8. Cool the baked mixture, then spread melted semi-sweet chocolate pieces evenly on top.
  9. Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate.
  10. Chill the bars for 1 hour until set.
  11. Cut into about 2 x 1-inch (5 x 2.5 cm) bars.
