Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring
  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, sugar, and Crisco together, then add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  2. Combine dry ingredients by sifting together: flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa.
  3. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients, mixing after each addition.
  4. Pour batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
  5. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
