- In a large bowl mix 3/4 cup flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add softened margarine; gradually add 2/3 cup very hot tap water and beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Add egg and 1/2 cup flour, or enough flour to create a thick batter.
- Beat at high speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl.
- Stir in additional flour until a soft dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured board.
- Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat the top with grease.
- Cover the bowl and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
