One Bowl Dinner Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 to 3 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 5 Tbsp. softened margarine
  • 2/3 c. very hot tap water
  • 1 egg (room temperature)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl mix 3/4 cup flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add softened margarine; gradually add 2/3 cup very hot tap water and beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Add egg and 1/2 cup flour, or enough flour to create a thick batter.
  4. Beat at high speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl.
  5. Stir in additional flour until a soft dough forms.
  6. Turn dough onto a lightly floured board.
  7. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  8. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat the top with grease.
  9. Cover the bowl and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
