Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut
  • 1 pound orange slice candy, diced and mixed with 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Cream the brown sugar and shortening until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; blend into the creamed mixture.
  4. Fold in the diced orange slice candy (dusted with flour), flaked coconut, chopped nuts, and rolled oats, mixing well.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch diameter balls.
  6. Place the balls on a greased baking sheet and press down with the tines of a fork.
  7. Bake at 325°F for about 12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
