Ingredients

  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 pound orange slice candy
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 small can coconut
  • 1 pound dates
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F.
  2. Melt butter and let it cool.
  3. Cream sugar; add eggs one at a time and beat well.
  4. Add buttermilk and baking soda.
  5. Beat all ingredients together until smooth.
  6. Add flour and salt to the mixture.
  7. Fold in chopped dates, coconut, nuts, and orange slice candy.
  8. Pour batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
  9. Bake for 2 1/2 hours.
  10. Allow to cool slightly and frost the cake.
