Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 square unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Melt together the butter and unsweetened chocolate.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool.
  3. Add sugar and applesauce to the cooled chocolate mixture and stir well.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and soda.
  5. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the applesauce mixture.
  6. Stir in the chopped nuts and raisins.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 8-inch square baking pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50 minutes.
