Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup pear preserves
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening until smooth.
  2. Gradually add sugar, beating at medium speed until well blended.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  4. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
  5. Mix just until blended.
  6. Stir in vanilla, pear preserves, and chopped pecans.
  7. Pour into a greased and floured Bundt pan.
  8. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 1 hour and 35 minutes.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes; then remove from pan and cool completely.
