- Trim excess fat from steak; cut meat into 2 x 1/4-inch strips. Brown strips in a hot skillet with shortening, then drain off excess fat.
- Drain the tomato wedges, reserving the liquid.
- Add the reserved tomato liquid, onion slices, minced garlic, beef bouillon, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and a dash of pepper to the browned meat.
- Cover tightly and simmer over low heat for 50 minutes.
- Stir in green pepper strips and tomato wedges.
- Continue cooking, covered, until the green pepper is tender, about 6 to 8 minutes.
- Remove the meat and vegetables to a serving bowl with a slotted spoon.
- Reserve the cooking liquid; add hot water as needed to make 1/2 cup.
- Serve immediately, passing the extra liquid to guests.
