Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon almond flavoring

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Sift together flour, soda, and cocoa powder.
  4. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. Add almond flavoring and mix well.
  6. Divide batter evenly among four greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
  7. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from oven and cool in pans for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
