Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 medium green pepper, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasonings
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 6 English muffins, split and toasted
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown the Italian sausage in a skillet; drain off excess fat.
  2. Add chopped green pepper, chopped onion, chopped mushrooms (if using), Italian seasonings, and minced garlic to the skillet.
  3. Cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
  5. Top each toasted English muffin half with 2 tablespoons of the meat sauce.
  6. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  7. Broil until the cheese melts and the filling is hot.
  8. Serve immediately.
