Chewy, chocolate-chip-studded date bars with a rich, buttery flavor and nutty crunch, perfect for snack time, lunchboxes, or a sweet treat any time of day.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped dates
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup soft butter
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Mix chopped dates and hot water, then cool.
  2. Beat the butter until creamy.
  3. Add beaten eggs, flour, and soda to the mixture.
  4. Add vanilla and 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the date mixture.
  5. Spread the batter in a greased 15 x 10-inch pan.
  6. Top with 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  8. Cut into squares to serve.
