Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup instant mashed potato flakes
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, shredded Cheddar cheese, salt, sugar, and butter in a pan.
  2. Heat until cheese melts.
  3. Remove from heat; stir in potato flakes.
  4. Cool to lukewarm.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, sprinkle yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar over warm water.
  6. Dissolve the yeast and sugar mixture.
  7. Stir in the milk-cheese mixture.
  8. Beat in the egg.
  9. Gradually beat in flour to make a soft, sticky dough.
  10. Knead the dough for 5 minutes.
  11. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rise until doubled in size.
  12. Punch down the dough and knead again.
  13. Shape the dough into a loaf.
  14. Let the shaped loaf rise again until doubled.
  15. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 35 to 40 minutes.
