Ingredients

  • 1 lb seedless raisins
  • 2 c hot water
  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 3 c flour
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 c chopped nuts
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Boil the raisins, water, sugar, and shortening together for 10 minutes.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool.
  3. Add the flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt, and baking powder to the cooled mixture.
  4. Mix well and fold in the chopped nuts.
  5. Add eggs if needed and mix thoroughly.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
