Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening until smooth.
  2. Gradually add sugar and continue to cream well.
  3. Add the beaten egg and mix thoroughly.
  4. Stir in the canned pumpkin until well combined.
  5. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture along with the vanilla, mixing until just combined.
  7. Fold in chocolate chips.
