- Combine raisins and water in a saucepan.
- Bring to boiling and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Drain, reserving 1/2 cup of liquid, and allow to cool.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream the margarine or Crisco, sugar, eggs, and vanilla at high speed for 3 minutes.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients in fourths with the reserved raisin liquid, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the cooled raisins and chopped nuts.
- Drop heaping tablespoonfuls of the batter onto a lightly greased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
