Ingredients

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup margarine, melted
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 jar (10 or 12 oz.) favorite preserves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine oats, flour, brown sugar, chopped nuts, salt, and baking soda in a bowl.
  3. Add melted margarine and mix until crumbly.
  4. Reserve 2/3 cup of oats and press the remaining mixture evenly into a 7 x 11-inch dish.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and spread preserves evenly over the baked layer.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining oats on top of the preserves.
  8. Bake for an additional 25 minutes at 350°F (175°C).
  9. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
