Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, finely chopped
  • 1 pound mild pork sausage
  • 2 to 3 pounds hamburger
  • 1 cup white wine
  • Salt
  • Basil
  • 1 48-ounce can tomato sauce

Instructions

  1. Saute finely chopped onion, carrot, and celery in olive oil for 15 to 20 minutes until softened.
  2. Add the pork sausage and cook, crumbling it as it browns.
  3. Pour in white wine and cook with the lid on loosely for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  4. Add the tomato sauce, salt to taste, and basil.
  5. Lightly cover and cook for several more hours until flavors meld.
  6. Serve the ragu with cooked pasta.
