Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup lard
  • 1 box raisins
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 cup nuts
  • 3 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Bring water, lard, sugar, and raisins to a boil until the lard floats to the top.
  2. Dissolve the soda in enough water and add it to the boiling mixture.
  3. Add the nuts and flour to the mixture and stir well.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
