Raisin Custard Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread, cubed
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 2 1/4 c. milk, scalded
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Grease a 1-quart casserole dish.
  3. Put bread and raisins in large mixing bowl.
  4. Add scalded milk; soak 5 minutes.
  5. Add butter, sugar, salt, eggs and vanilla; mix well. Pour into prepared casserole.
  6. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
  7. Put casserole dish in an 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan.
  8. Pour 2 cups hot water in pan.
  9. Bake for 60 to 65 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  10. Serve warm.
  11. Makes 8 servings.
