Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup raisins or nuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soda

Instructions

  1. Dissolve baking soda in hot water.
  2. Mix all ingredients including the dissolved soda.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto a greased pan.
  4. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes.
  5. Lower oven temperature to 300°F and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
