- Sift the flour once; measure the amount.
- Add baking soda, salt, and spices to the flour and sift together three times.
- Work the butter with a spoon until creamy.
- Gradually add sugar and cream until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and beat well.
- Alternately add the flour mixture and the combined milk and molasses, a small amount at a time, beating until smooth after each addition.
- Stir in the raisins and coarsely broken nutmeats.
- Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake in a hot oven at 400°F (200°C) for 10 to 12 minutes.
