Ingredients

  • 3 lb. beef round steak
  • 2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. cooking oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 c. water

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from meat; cut into serving size pieces. Slash edges to prevent curling.
  2. Combine flour, dry mustard, salt, and pepper; use to coat meat. Reserve remaining flour mixture.
  3. In a skillet, brown both sides of meat in oil, half the meat at a time.
  4. Push meat to one side of the skillet.
  5. Stir in the reserved flour mixture. Combine water and Worcestershire sauce; stir into skillet.
  6. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly; reduce heat.
  7. Cover and simmer meat in gravy for 1 to 1 1/4 hours or until tender.
  8. Transfer meat to a warm serving platter.
  9. Skim excess fat from gravy; drizzle gravy over meat.

Tips & Substitutions

For the best flavor, let the coated beef sit for 30 minutes before browning to enhance seasoning absorption. If you don't have dry mustard, Dijon mustard can be used as a substitute. For a thicker gravy, add a bit more flour to the reserved mixture. Adjust the seasoning to your preference, adding garlic powder or onion powder for extra depth.

Serving Suggestions

Serve your Ranch Round Steak with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the delicious gravy. Steamed green beans or a fresh salad would make excellent sides to balance the richness of the dish. For a complete meal, consider pairing it with a hearty bread or biscuits, which complement the flavors beautifully.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover Ranch Round Steak in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of water to maintain moisture, or microwave in short intervals, covered, to prevent drying out. This dish also freezes well for up to 3 months.
