Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups water
  • 4 cups raisins
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 teaspoons soda
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Bring water and raisins to a boil. Set aside to cool; add baking soda.
  2. Cream together sugar, butter, salt, eggs, and vanilla.
  3. Add flour to the creamed mixture.
  4. Mix the raisin mixture into the batter.
  5. Stir well to combine.
  6. Add nuts to the batter.
  7. Fill a greased loaf pan half full with the batter.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
