Ingredients

  • 6 cups red cabbage, shredded
  • 3 tablespoons butter or bacon drippings
  • 2 tablespoons onion, chopped
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar or white wine
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage by shredding it.
  2. Melt the butter or bacon drippings in a large skillet and sauté the chopped onion.
  3. Add the brown sugar, vinegar or white wine, and caraway seed to the skillet and stir well.
  4. Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and cook for about 25 minutes, stirring frequently.
  5. Canned red cabbage may be substituted for fresh.
  6. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes until heated through and flavors meld.
