Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • red sugar crystals

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, then gradually add sugar and beat until fluffy.
  2. Add egg and beat in vegetable oil.
  3. Combine flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda, then add to the mixture. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Chill dough for 2 hours (or overnight).
  5. Shape into 1-inch balls, dip the tip in red sugar crystals, and flatten with a fork.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Allow cookies to cool and store in an airtight container layered with wax paper.
