Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup raw quick oats
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon monosodium glutamate
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried savory leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup onion, coarsely chopped
  • 2 1/2 pounds ground chuck

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat eggs slightly with a fork.
  2. Stir in milk, oats, salt, monosodium glutamate, savory leaves, pepper, and parsley; set aside.
  3. In a hot skillet, sauté onion in butter until tender, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the sautéed onion to the egg mixture, along with the ground chuck.
  5. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
  6. Line a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan with waxed paper. Turn the meat mixture into the pan, packing it down well.
  7. Refrigerate, covered, for at least 2 hours.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Carefully turn out the meat loaf onto a shallow baking pan, keeping its original shape.
  10. Bake for 30 minutes.
  11. Meanwhile, prepare the glaze as desired.
