San Francisco Chicken features tender chicken breasts simmered in a savory soy-based sauce with garlic and red pepper, offering a flavorful, quick dish perfect for weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 8 boneless chicken breasts (about 4 oz. each)
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 c. chicken broth or white wine
  • 1/4 c. soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp. cold water

Instructions

  1. Brown chicken on both sides in oil over medium heat.
  2. Remove chicken and add garlic to the skillet.
  3. Sauté garlic for a minute.
  4. Combine chicken broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, and crushed red pepper.
  5. Return chicken to the skillet and pour sauce over it.
  6. Cover tightly and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes.
  7. Remove chicken to a serving platter.
  8. Stir in cornstarch dissolved in water.
  9. Cook and stir until the sauce thickens.
  10. Pour the sauce over the chicken before serving.
