Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/4 cup Crisco
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 unbeaten eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Mix the sugar and plain flour well.
  2. Bring to boil the margarine, Crisco, water, and cocoa.
  3. Pour the hot mixture over the sugar and flour; blend well.
  4. Add the remaining ingredients with the flour mixture; beat well.
  5. Grease a 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes only (according to stove test for doneness).
  8. While the cake is baking, make the icing.
