- In a large bowl, combine eggs and buttermilk.
- Beat in sugar, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, and baking soda.
- Set aside the batter.
- Combine butter or oleo, water, and cocoa in a medium saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce heat and continue boiling for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the hot cocoa mixture to the batter and beat until smooth and well blended.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
- Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before spreading with Shawneetown Cake Icing.
