Ingredients

  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter or oleo
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine eggs and buttermilk.
  2. Beat in sugar, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, and baking soda.
  3. Set aside the batter.
  4. Combine butter or oleo, water, and cocoa in a medium saucepan.
  5. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  6. Reduce heat and continue boiling for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add the hot cocoa mixture to the batter and beat until smooth and well blended.
  8. Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  9. Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool before spreading with Shawneetown Cake Icing.
