Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef or turkey
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 4 c. undrained canned tomatoes
  • 1/2 to 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 c. sliced celery
  • 1/2 c. chopped green pepper
  • 1 3/4 c. kidney beans (15 oz. can, undrained)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground meat and chopped onion in a Dutch oven; drain excess fat.
  2. Add undrained canned tomatoes, sliced celery, chopped green pepper, kidney beans, garlic salt, chili powder, salt, and bay leaf to the pot.
  3. Simmer, covered, for 1 to 2 hours to develop flavors.
  4. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
  5. Serve hot. The chili freezes well and can be made in a crock-pot.
