Ingredients

  • 3 cups sifted plain flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter.
  2. Add the sugar and cream together.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Alternate adding flour and buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour.
  5. Add vanilla and mix until combined.
  6. Pour the batter into four greased and wax paper-lined layer pans.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes.
