Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, sugar, and ginger.
  2. Add the shortening, beaten egg, and molasses to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  3. Gradually add the boiling water, stirring until the batter is smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes.
